Town Hall Zwickau Redesign and Reconstruction including a extension building
STRUCTURAL ENGINEERING
The redesign of the townshall was performed under preservation of all listed components. The northern part (at the market) and the western wing were conserved. The new building extends behind the north wing and integrates the classic facade of the west wing.
The new building contains the offices of the city council and the hall. The ground floor is reserved as shopping area. The historic part of the townshall is conserved. Modifications were made in the entrance area and in the connection to the new building. Wooden roofs were restored, broken parts were transposed. The stiffness of the roofing was intensified.
To guarantee seismic safety the new building was foundet on large piles. Existing cellar rooms were filled with lean concrete (so a excavation support was prevented). Storey ceilings were realized with weight reducted ferroconcrete.
