In favor of an existing, almost inner-city industrial area, the responsible persons of Chemnitz were courageous by making their decision in choosing the site for the central company courtyard. It was necessary to avoid some more seals on the "grünen Wiese" (green meadow) and in conjunction with this the argumentation for optimal construction conditions including a logical complete concept on a "Industriebrache" (industrial fallow). Finally the result silenced the critics. Today the former and still impressive halls of a factory for prefabricated concrete parts offer space for special purpose vehicles of the waste-management company. The former office- and construction area has been constructed to modern administration- and social building and the monstrous relics of the free crane plant has been replaced by parking spaces and a winter maintenance hall. In the former reinforcement hall the new, technical remarkable sophisticated, central work shop including a modern indoor-carwash for special purpose vehicles has been constructed.
At present one of the national largest roof photovoltaic plants is under construction on the hall roofs according to static-constructive preconditions of our structural engineers. This is a project which we were allowed to plan by order of Elicon GmbH.
